The Increasing Botox Trend

By Ariel Mernal

People today know that botox injection procedures are fast and easy, and make the skin look more youthful. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. What was once probably thought to be a procedure whose novelty might wear off one day is nowadays considered to be one that is here to stay.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

There is a very basic reason for this. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. Because of the constant coverage by media about celebrity procedures, the public is more aware about botox nowadays.

What about Botox for Men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The facts show something else, entirely. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

Trends are changing

The fact is, botox usage is going up. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. There are those who say that the number is more accurately about 10% per year that it rises. Most people see these numbers and are not surprised by them. In the past, the general attitude toward botox treatments were negative, but as time goes on, it's no longer just the super wealthy that can afford them, and regular people are much more accepting of the procedure. This procedure has become quite mainstream and popular.

That is only part of the story. Many other non-cosmetic disorders can be treated by botox injections, including muscle spasticity disorders and other chronic conditions. Spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy for adults and children, and blepharospasm are included in the other treatments that botox can be helpful for. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
