The new score is referred to as a difficulty score. It brings the number of scores currently in application to two. In difficulty scores, points are awarded as contrasted to execution scores where points are deducted. The difficulty scores are based on the elements gymnasts perform and may change depending on whether the participant completes or fails to do all skills involved. It depends on whether or not someone links the skills to each other as needed.

The most common gains on the difficulty score are connection bonuses. Connection of elements is the awarding factor here because it is considered very skillful to connect two or more flight elements. Besides, it is very hard to connect a skill to another if the first skill is not performed correctly in the first place. The difficulty score allows performers to gain more points basing on how difficult the events they do are and how they execute them. There is no limit in the score one can gain here.

Most events are performed singly by an individual while others involve a pair or a group. Pair and group events need a lot of focus and synchronism among all participants because the failure of one person extends to the entire group. There are also many equipment used in most skills of each event.
